Print Play
Fabulous ways to wear prints!

Summer is upon us and we challenge you to get into the ‘print play’ mode by adding patterns into your wardrobe. Whether it’s about dressing down at home or decking up for the weekend, we want you to ring in the warm weather in leopard, polka, ditzy florals and geometrics. With a little bit of outfit inspiration prints can be just as easy to style as any solid colours. Here are a few fabulous ways to wear prints.

Prints vs solids:

For a person who is pattern-phobic, the easiest way to wear print is to pair it with a solid colour. Incorporating neutral solids into an outfit can help break up a printed piece and ground your look. Style tip: Spice up your print with a pop of bright, solid colour. If you’re wearing a fun outfit, go with trendy canvas shoes to keep it casual and add a contrasting clutch for the zing effect.

Now this can be really daunting. Combining two or more prints is not easy to pull it off. But with a few guidelines and a bit of can-do attitude, you can mix and match summer’s best stripes, polkas and florals! Style tip: The entry-level rule for print-mixing is to stick to simple patterns and silhouettes. Also, instead of matching the prints, match the colours, and you’ll win half of the battle. To start with, go with stripes they can be paired with almost anything.

Big florals vs small florals:

Every girl should have a floral dress to throw on this summer. Own a piece that will take you from morning to night. Usually big florals swamp, and small florals flatter. But fashion is all about making bold statements, right? Style tip: Ditzy florals look breezy when styled with nude pumps and maybe a fedora. While large florals can be grounded with gladiators and a form-fitting jacket that will flatter your body and print at the same time.

All things Polka:

A classic way to incorporate print is to go polka! Ground rule is the bigger the scale of the print, the more you stand out. So if you’re rooting for an understated look, then go for smaller polka prints. Polka of any size are the easiest print to mix into an outfit, as they function as neutrals and can be paired with almost anything. Style tip: A black-and-white polka dot top is a must-have in every girl’s wardrobe. Pair it with tailored shorts, jeans, a skirt or just about anything! As for the dress, go for a nice pastel colour this summer and team it with a jeans jacket for a grunge look and golden accessorise to make a little feminine.

Wild prints:

Picking one style (cheetah/ leopard/ zebra) to wear head to toe and calling it a day is the easiest way to do animal print. If you’re wearing this print in the form of a top or pants, then it should ideally be paired with black, and black alone. Style tip: For a beginner, a purr is always better than a roar. That is, start with a one-piece than going all-over! For a casual look, team it up with hot shorts, and for a polished one, go for a glamourous satin skirt with matching animal-print accessories or shoes.
