Booby Trap!
Bra Myths vs Facts

Let’s talk about BRAS! While we all are comfortable talking about backless dresses, mini skirts and even lacy thongs and whatnot, somehow when it comes to bras and breasts, we feel socially awkward. Well, that’s one of the main reasons it leads to myths and misconceptions. There is so much of (mis)information circulating about what type of brassiere to buy, not to buy, what’s good, what’s not, that sometimes we end up getting our facts and myths mixed. Well, it’s time to debunk them.

Myth #1: Underwire/black bras up breast cancer risk: Completely false.

Fact:
Underwire or not, black or not, no bra, in any way, can increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer. This myth sprung up in the 90s when some ‘brilliant’ researchers claimed that these bras trapped toxins in the breast tissue and increased the risk of cancer! Really, this is as silly as the infamous ‘black cat’ superstition.

Myth #2: It’s okay to wash bras in the washing machine

Fact:
Technically speaking, it’s not a sin. But if you want your bras to last longer, then hand-wash is recommended. From cups getting crushed to straps getting stretched, and the possibility of hooks getting tangled with the lace – there many disadvantages of a machine-wash. So girls, it’s advisable to keep your delicates away from the terminator! :p

Myth #3: Sleeping with a bra makes your breasts perky: Yeah sure – like there’s an actual way to fight the forces of nature!

Fact:
Unless you’re completely comfortable with it, it’s better to free your babies from booby jail from time to time.

Myth #4: A white or light-coloured bra is less visible: We bet, half of you reading this believe that a white bra under a white shirt makes your bra invisible. Wrong.

Fact:
If you wish to go incognito wear a nude-tone bra or a bra that’s closest to your skin colour. Or even better, go for  a bright red or a pop-lime coloured bra to add some drama to your white t-shirt.

Myth #5: You don’t need a sports bra for working out: That’s a blasphemy, girl!

PJ sets
Fact:
Even if you don’t work out regularly, it’s imperative to invest in a quality sports bra. They provide maximum support while minimizing breast movement, thereby preventing your breasts from sagging.

Myth #6: A bra can last you for several years: Nooooooo

Fact:
We know you love that frilly, lacy bra that you bought years ago, spent a bomb on it, and it’s kind of a priceless possession. But you’ve got to let go. A good quality bra will last you for about a 100 washes, which means about a year or so. After that, for the sake of your boob health, say buh-bye!
