A Walk in the Clouds
Amazing Monsoon Getaways

They say life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rains. Often, our daily grind leaves us uninspired, makes us jaded; but somehow the rains make everything beautiful. Doesn’t it? So take a green break, go some place with abundant nature, be it misty hills or place with cascading waterfalls, get your mojo back, get romantic and get going! Here’s a list of amazing monsoon getaways to explore within India.

Dudhsagar waterfalls, Goa:

Dudhsagar Falls (which literally means sea of milk) will have you hypnotised from the word go! It’s almost a 12-km trek from the last station and it’s located in the middle of a dense forest on the Goa-Karnataka border. It takes about 6-7 hours to complete the picturesque hike (remember the iconic waterfall scene from Chennai Express?), so it’s perfect for you if you’re an adventure junkie – ‘coz overnight camping options are available too!

What to wear: For hiking, shorts or capri pants are always better than full-length clothes ‘coz they tend to get wet and dirty from the bottom. And yes, don’t forget to carry a really good windcheater.

Munnar, Kerala:

In Munnar, when it rains, it pours! This picturesque hill station, with its infinite tea plantations, is nothing short of a mystical getaway during monsoon. When nimbus clouds engulf the lush green tea slopes in a white luminous blanket, when even the sound of the wind sounds like a gurgling waterfall, you would realise it’s the best place to lose yourself in nature and find peace.

What to wear: The nights in Munnar tend to get a bit cold. So packing a full-sleeve pj set would be a wise idea. And if you want something fancy, just to lounge around in your hotel room then go for a full-length satin robe.

Udaipur, Rajasthan:

A city of grand palaces, beautiful lakes, bustling streets… Udaipur is dotted with historic structures. From taking a drive to Bagore-ki-Haveli which is set on the water’s edge to exploring the iconic City Palace and enjoying a dreamy boat ride in Lake Pichola while clouds are playing hide and seek above, Udaipur is the perfect place to relax, do sightseeing and enjoy good food and of course night safari!

What to wear: Since the city is a little more traditional, go for indo-western look. Try a breezy peplum on harem pants or an amber top on a Jaipuri skirt and maybe accessorise with oxidized jewellery.

Uttarakhand, Valley of Flowers:

If you’re from up north, there couldn’t be any better place than Valley of Flowers for you to go for a quick getaway. July-August is the best time to see the charming meadows and the wildflowers in full bloom. This alpine valley is carpeted with orchids, poppies, marigold, daisies, geraniums, wild roses and hundreds of other flower species. It’s also home to rare and endangered animals such as black deer, snow leopard, musk deer and red fox.

What to wear: You’ll be exploring a lot, and that means one thing you absolutely need is a comfortable underwear. And although it’s summer in the Himalayas, wear a layer of thermal under your clothes.
